Turf

Our Terralift aeration system will relieve compaction, waterlogging, and related problems on all kinds of turf from golf greens to garden lawns, cricket squares to rugby pitches, parks, cemeteries, race courses and college quadrangles. Anywhere in fact, (underground services and subsoil permitting) where there’s grass we have the machine to do the job.

ONCE OUR WORK IS COMPLETED, TREATMENT SHOULD LAST TEN YEARS.

Fine Turf

The beauty of the Terralift aeration system lies in the fact that although compressed air is injected one metre into the subsoil creating fractures and fissures which break up compaction, aerate the soil and dramatically improve drainage, there is MINIMAL SURFACE DISRUPTION and PLAY CAN RESUME IMMEDIATELY. Scamper, our lightweight, four wheeled ride-on Airforce teralift machine has been designed specifically for golf and bowling greens. The fact that the heavy engine and compressor unit are left on the trailer, (attached by an umbilical hose) means that it weighs in at under 600 kilos and, like the rest of our Airforce fleet, Scamper has air pressures ranging from 10 to 20 bar, which are easily controlled by the operator. We usually test the conditions by starting treatment at 15 bar and adjust the pressure accordingly. We inject dried, milled seaweed on the final air blast (it swells when wet, keeping the new, underground fractures and fissure open) and fill the probe holes with lytag, which again, aids aeration and drainage. Once we’ve left, our specialist treatment (coupled with your own seasonal, surface aeration), should keep working for your hallowed turf for a decade.

Amenity Turf

Winter sports pitches, parks, public gardens and large compacted turf areas can be restored using the terralift system as described above. Airforce, our original, and largest machine tackles large areas with ease, while Airforce Remote, the smallest, lightest, nibblest pedestrian model is designed to treat the hardest to reach corners in back gardens, behind the clubhouse or between flower beds. Tracker, mounted on twin, caterpillar tracks can work on the roughest terrain, even bare, waterlogged soil.

Fine and Amenity Turf – SURFACE AERATION WITH THE DEEP DRILL

Following Terrain Aeration’s acquisition of the machinery assets of C&P Soilcare the Deep Drill, which Lynda Green (our Operations Director) originally imported from the USA in 1992, has come back under our control.  In desperate need of an extensive overhaul, the machine was completely stripped and rebuilt in our workshops with many hundreds of worn out parts replaced.

The Deep Drill, now as good as new performs surface aeration on ALL TYPES OF TURF including golf greens, tees and fairways, cricket wickets, bowling greens, football and rugby pitches and parks.

The three wheeled, self propelled unit, driven by a Kubota 950, 21hp engine has a ground pressure of just 9 psi and is capable of treating approximately 240 sq metres of turf per hour.

60 tungsten tipped, 16mm diameter drills on a 12 by 5 grid with 125mm spacings give a drilling area of 1 square metre per cycle. These drills bore into the top 250mm of soil beneath the turf encouraging healthy root growth, improving surface drainage and increasing the uptake of nutrients. Following treatment the spoil produced can be swept away and the drilled holes back filled with top dressing, soil improvers or soil activators according to your requirements. After that the surface can be played on immediately.

The Deep Drill was originally designed for and is ideal for the treatment of USGA SPEC or SAND BASED GOLF GREENS. The Deep Drill is the perfect top surface treatment to compliment Terrain Aeration’s one-metre deep, Terralift aeration treatment.
